Shopian |: In a significant step towards ensuring legal identity and inclusive access to welfare schemes, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Shopian commenced a three-day Aadhaar registration camp under the SAATHI campaign (Survey for Aadhaar and Access to Tracking & Holistic Inclusion).
The camp focuses on Aadhaar enrolment of vulnerable and marginalized children, particularly those who are orphaned, in street situations or otherwise deprived of basic documentation.
The inaugural session of the campaign was held at Govt. High School Shadab Karewa, and was inaugurated by Mehmood Ahmad Chowdhary, Chairman, DLSA Shopian in the presence of SAATHI committee members and frontline legal services functionaries.
The initiative aligns with the broader vision of the Legal Services Authority J&K & National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) to ensure that no child is left behind due to lack of Aadhaar identification, particularly those belonging to marginalized, destitute, and at-risk groups.
During the first day of the camp, 16 children were registered for Aadhaar, earlier identified through prior field surveys conducted by the SAATHI committee in coordination with various stakeholders including educational institutions, child welfare officers, and local outreach workers.
The registration process was facilitated by Aadhaar operators deputed in coordination with the district administration, with assistance from PLVs of DLSA Shopian, who ensured smooth documentation, verification, and support for the children and their guardians throughout the process.
The event was attended by members of the SAATHI committee, DLSA staff, PLVs, and other field functionaries associated with the campaign.
