Youth must rise to serve humanity: DC Kathua

Kathua | : District Administration Kathua, in collaboration with Girdhari Lal Dogra Memorial (GLDM) Government Degree College, Hiranagar and Yuva Bharat, organized a one-day Blood Donation Camp-cum-Awareness Program in the College premises.

Deputy Commissioner Kathua Dr. Rakesh Minhas graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while noted social activist from Yuva Bharat  Anurag, was the Guest of Honour. The Principal of the college, Dr. Pragya Khanna, was the Special Guest for the event.

The program commenced with the plantation of Chinar saplings and other plants by the Chief Guest and other guests, symbolizing the commitment to both health and environmental sustainability. The event proceeded with the lighting of the traditional lamp and a formal welcome address by SDM Hiranagar Phulail Singh.

The event witnessed participation from community members, social workers, school students, and faculty from various institutions across the Hiranagar Block.

The Deputy Commissioner exhorted the youth to actively participate in social causes. He said blood donation is not just a medical need but our moral duty and a true expression of being humane. “Each unit of blood donated has the potential to save not just one but multiple lives”, he added. He also congratulated the college Principal, Yuva Bharat team, team of sub district administration Hiranagar and NSS volunteers for their efforts.

Earlier, an insightful awareness address by a medical expert set the tone for the importance of blood donation.

The entire proceedings were conducted by Advocate Ketan Kumar, Yuva Bharat activist, with the dedicated support of Prof. Rakesh Sharma (NSS Advisor) and Prof. Shapia Shameem (NSS Program Officer) of GDC Hiranagar.

A team of doctors and paramedical staff from the Sub-District Hospital, National Health Mission, and Bee Enn General Hospital Talab Tillo, extended their medical expertise, ensuring safe and successful blood collection.

The event witnessed a turnout of around 300 students from nearby schools and faculty members. A total of 72 units of blood were collected during the camp, making the event a resounding success in service to humanity.

The program concluded with a vote of thanks by Tehsildar Hiranagar, Anoop Kumar. ‎
