New Delhi: Union Home Minister Amit Shah asserted that Jammu and Kashmir is on the path to lasting peace under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, emphasizing the government’s commitment to dismantling all terror outfits in the region.
In a statement to Rajya Sabha, he highlighted the successful elimination of terrorists involved in the recent Pahalgam attack, which resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians, primarily tourists. The responsibility for this attack was claimed by The Resistance Front (TRF), and the terrorists were neutralized through two coordinated operations, “Operation Sindoor” and “Operation Mahadev.” Shah provided evidence linking the weapons used in the attack to those recovered from the slain terrorists, reinforcing the credibility of the operations. He noted that intelligence agencies and local police had interrogated 155 individuals, identifying those who aided the attackers for further investigation. Shah expressed gratitude to the Prime Minister and armed forces for their roles in the counter-terrorism efforts, stating that he personally visited Jammu and Kashmir to ensure the terrorists were captured and prevented from escaping to Pakistan. Detailing the timeline of the operations, Shah explained that “Operation Mahadev” was initiated on the day of the attack, with the terrorists’ location confirmed by May 22. A joint strategy was developed involving the Jammu and Kashmir Police, 4 Para, and the CRPF, leading to a precise execution of the operation. He emphasized the families of the victims had sought justice, which the government delivered through decisive action. In response to criticism regarding the timing of the operations coinciding with the Parliament session, Shah defended the necessity of the operations, stating that immediate action was not always feasible. He characterized the twin operations as India’s strongest response to terrorism, invoking historical references to symbolize national strength and determination. Shah also challenged the opposition’s protests, questioning their stance on groups like Lashkar-e-Taiba and asserting that the BJP is committed to reclaiming Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) through targeted strikes against terrorist infrastructure.
