Institute to work on semiconductor, automotive research under ANRF’s hub-and-spoke model

Srinagar | : The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar has been awarded a grant of ₹2.3 crore under the Partnerships for Accelerated Innovation and Research (PAIR), Category B, scheme by the Anusandhan National Research Foundation (ANRF).

The initiative aims to enhance collaborative research through a hub-and-spoke model, with NIT Srinagar collaborating with the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kanpur, which serves as the hub institution. The project will focus on two primary themes: Advanced Research and Education in Cancer Diagnostics and Therapeutics (CARE-CaDaT) and the Synergistic Development of Semiconductor and Digital Technologies for the Automotive Sector. NIT Srinagar will contribute specifically to the latter, working on the development of indigenous solutions in semiconductor and automotive technology. The one-year project is led by Dr. Sheikh Aamir Ahsan, with a team of faculty members from various engineering departments. The grant will be managed by IIT Kanpur, while NIT Srinagar and other spoke institutions will engage in research and development activities. The collaboration is seen as a significant step in enhancing NIT Srinagar’s research capabilities and visibility on both national and international platforms. The PAIR scheme aligns with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, promoting innovation and collaboration across academia, industry, and policy sectors.

In a statement issued here on Friday NIT Srinagar’s leadership expressed pride in this collaboration, highlighting its potential to drive innovation in critical sectors like semiconductors and automotive technology, which are vital for India’s technological advancement. The project is expected to foster interdisciplinary research and contribute to the institute’s goal of becoming a research-intensive institution aligned with national priorities. Other institutions involved in the PAIR-B network include Chhatrapati Sahuji Maharaj Kanpur University, IIIT Una, KGMU Lucknow, NIT Arunachal Pradesh, and Ravenshaw University, Cuttack.
