Drass : The Indian Army on Friday commenced the Kargil Vijay Diwas celebrations in Drass, Ladakh, to honor the soldiers who sacrificed their lives during the 1999 Kargil War, with the main event scheduled for July 26.
Senior Army officials and Union Ministers, including the Minister of State for Defence, participated in wreath-laying ceremonies at the Kargil War Memorial, commemorating the bravery displayed in key battles such as Tololing, Tiger Hill, and Batalik. This year’s celebrations will span two days, featuring a blend of traditional and modern events. Cultural performances, including the Yak dance and patriotic songs, captivated attendees on the first evening, complemented by a special drone show that highlighted advancements in India’s defense capabilities. The Army also presented new technologies, such as robotic dogs and logistics drones, designed to assist soldiers in transporting supplies and conducting patrols in challenging high-altitude environments, thereby alleviating the physical burden on troops. On the following day, the Army plans to unveil three digital initiatives: a website for online tributes to martyrs, QR-code based audio guides at the memorial sharing war stories, and the inauguration of the “Indus Viewpoint” in Batalik, which will provide the public with a unique perspective of the Line of Control. The Kargil War Memorial has emerged as a significant site of remembrance, attracting visitors from across India who come to pay their respects to the valor of Indian soldiers. The introduction of advanced logistic drones and robotic dogs is expected to enhance operational efficiency in remote areas, significantly reducing the physical strain on troops deployed in harsh conditions.
