Srinagar | : Chief Minister’s Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani has criticized the opposition for their political compromises that he claims resulted in the loss of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status and statehood.
Talking to reporters in Kupwara, Wani said that had the opposition not allied with the BJP in 2014 for power, the current situation might have been different. He emphasized that the resolution to address the loss of status was a necessity due to these compromises. Regarding the absence of National Conference (NC) representatives at a recent Congress protest about the delay in restoring statehood, Wani clarified that the NC was not informed or invited to participate. He expressed that had they been notified, they would have supported the protest. Wani reaffirmed the electoral alliance between NC and Congress but highlighted the importance of communication for effective cooperation. On the topic of statehood restoration, Wani said that the NC is pursuing a strategy that he believes will yield positive results, although he did not provide specific details. He also mentioned that NC has representation in Parliament and should advocate for the restoration of statehood during the ongoing session. Finally, addressing rumors of a potential cabinet reshuffle, Wani dismissed them as unfounded, stating that such decisions are solely at the discretion of the Chief Minister and that no official announcements have been made.
