Jammu |:  A fresh batch of 71 students from the Government SPMR College of Commerce, Jammu successfully completed a 10-day Summer Internship Program at the Jammu and Kashmir Entrepreneurship Development Institute (JKEDI), Bari Brahmana campus on Wednesday.

As per the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 guidelines, the internship program aimed at developing the entrepreneurial and research acumen among students, research aptitude and teamwork skills. During the program, the students were introduced to the role and functioning of the JKEDI. They gained exposure to the program verticals of the institute, all aimed at promoting entrepreneurship as a viable career choice in the UT of Jammu & Kashmir.

The internship program, designed to provide hands-on exposure to entrepreneurial development, startup culture, and enterprise creation, spanned 60 hours over 10 days. It featured interactive lectures, practical assignments, exposure visits, and sessions by the JKEDI faculty and guest speakers from the startup ecosystem.

The program concluded with a valedictory ceremony held at the Bari Brahmana campus of the institute. Chand Kishore Sharma, Joint Director JKEDI, graced the valedictory session as the Chief Guest. He congratulated the interns on the successful completion of the program and lauded their enthusiasm and commitment. In his address, he emphasized the importance of cultivating an entrepreneurial mindset among the youth and highlighted the institute’s pivotal role in shaping the startup landscape of the Union Territory.

“The future of economic development in J&K lies in innovation, self-employment, and entrepreneurship. I am pleased to see such motivated young minds taking keen interest in these areas,” the Joint Director JKEDI remarked during his interaction with the interns.

The Joint Director also engaged with the students in a feedback session to understand their learning experience and gather suggestions for further improvement. The interns expressed appreciation for the immersive and practical nature of the internship, particularly the insights into government schemes, business model development, and startup financing.

The internship program was conducted by a team of expert faculty of the institute under the overall supervision of Director JKEDI.

JKEDI regularly hosts internship programs for students across the Union Territory as part of its mandate to promote entrepreneurship and create awareness about self-employment as a viable career option. These programs aim to bridge the gap between academic knowledge and practical application in the entrepreneurial domain.
