Jammu| :  Shantmanu, Financial Commissioner (Additional Chief Secretary) Higher Education Department on Monday  inaugurated the IGNOU Learner Support Centre (LSC-12133) at Government Gandhi Memorial (GGM) Science College, Jammu.

The  event was attended by notable figures including Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Gupta, Principal of GGM Science College, and Dr. Sandeep Gupta, Regional Director of IGNOU Regional Centre Jammu, among others. The establishment of this Learner Support Centre marks a significant advancement in providing access to quality higher education, specifically for Bachelor of Science (BSCM) and Master of Science in Zoology (MSCZOO) programs. It is the first IGNOU Learner Support Centre dedicated exclusively to science-based programs in the Jammu division. The initiative was approved by the Vice Chancellor of IGNOU, Prof. Uma Kanjilal, following recommendations from a sub-committee focused on student support. During the inauguration, Shantmanu emphasized the necessity of accessible and flexible education in the current academic environment, highlighting the ongoing efforts of the Higher Education Department to enhance the teaching-learning ecosystem. He expressed commitment to supporting the expansion of the Learner Support Network in the region. Prof. (Dr.) Romesh Gupta praised the initiative, noting that the centre will provide new learning opportunities for students and the community, enhancing academic engagement through services like counseling, tutorials, and examination support. Dr. Sandeep Gupta elaborated on the broader implications of this collaboration, stating that it aligns with IGNOU’s mission to make quality distance education more accessible and inclusive, thereby serving as a crucial academic and administrative hub for learners in the Jammu region.
