Srinagar | Police on Saturday conducted a comprehensive Mock Drill along the Amarnath Yatra route in Ganderbal to enhance preparedness and safety for pilgrims.
The exercise was designed to simulate various emergency scenarios, including terror threats, stampedes, medical emergencies, evacuation procedures, natural disasters, and crowd management challenges. The aim was to evaluate the coordination, alertness, and responsiveness of multiple security forces and stakeholders involved in the Yatra, such as J&K Police, CAPFs, ITBP, SDRF, and civil administration. The drill focused on strategically important areas, particularly those deemed vulnerable, where prompt action is essential during a crisis. Key aspects included real-time communication, inter-agency coordination, effective resource utilization, and adherence to Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs). Senior officers from the Police and Security establishment supervised the exercise, monitoring each phase and providing feedback to improve operational readiness. Importantly, the mock drill was executed without disrupting the movement of Yatris or inconveniencing the public, who cooperated fully, for which the Police expressed gratitude. The Police reaffirmed their commitment to maintaining peace and order throughout the Yatra period.
