Srinagar | : Police on Tuesday conducted mock drills along the Yatra routes in various districts of the Kashmir valley, including Srinagar, Ganderbal, Budgam, Pulwama, Kulgam, and PD Awantipora, to enhance security measures for the Yatra.
The drills were strategically executed at key locations to evaluate the alertness, preparedness, and coordination among the different security agencies assigned to Yatra duties. The exercises simulated various scenarios, including standoff fire, attempted fidayeen attacks, IED detection, convoy stoppage, emergency evacuations, crowd management, and disaster responses to potential earthquakes and landslides. Senior police officials oversaw the drills, ensuring adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and making necessary refinements. Particular attention was given to critical areas that are prone to congestion or high foot traffic, allowing for the assessment of the efficiency of response teams and quick reaction units. Importantly, the mock drills were conducted without disrupting the Yatris or the general public, and the cooperation of citizens and pilgrims was acknowledged and appreciated.
