LG Sinha, CM Omar, others condole deaths
Doda: A tragic road accident occurred in the Ponda area of Doda district, resulting in the deaths of seven individuals and injuries to 17 others.
The accident involved a tempo traveller that skidded off the Doda–Barath road and fell into a deep gorge. At the time of the accident, the vehicle was carrying 26 passengers. Local police and volunteers promptly initiated rescue operations, with authorities providing emergency medical assistance. The Deputy Commissioner of Doda, Harvinder Singh, confirmed the fatalities and stated that the deceased’s bodies have been returned to their families for last rites following post-mortem procedures. The injured are currently receiving treatment at GMC Doda and Jammu. Among the injured are several individuals from Aul, including Mohammad Rafi, Hakim, and Abdul Qayoom, among others. Five of the deceased have been identified, with two identities still pending confirmation. In response to the incident, police have opened an investigation. Condolences have been expressed by various officials, including J&K Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, who emphasized the administration’s commitment to providing immediate medical assistance and support to those affected. In his condolence message, the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha said: “Pained by the loss of lives due to the tragic road accident in Doda. My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families in this hour of grief. Praying for a speedy recovery of the injured.”Union Minister Jitendra Singh also assured that all necessary help is being coordinated for the victims and their families.
