5 drug peddlers arrested in Awantipora, B’la, Contraband substances also recovered: Police

Srinagar | : Police On Tuesday said that it has  arrested five drug peddlers from Awantipora and Baramulla Police districts and also seized contraband substances from their possession.

In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters in Srinagar Police said that in Awantipora, a police team from the Pampore station apprehended one Khursheed Ahmad Ganie at a checkpoint and recovered from his possession 4 grams of a heroin-like substance.  Stating that the said accused has been booked under FIR number 76/2025 besides which an investigation is underway Police in its statement further said that three other suspects—Manzoor Ahmed Mir, Asrar Manzoor, and Muneer Rasool Bhat—were intercepted at a different checkpoint in Pampore, where 10.38 grams of a heroin-like substance was found following which they were arrested, and a case was  registered against them under FIR number 77/2025 in accordance with the NDPS Act.

Police in its statement further said that in a separate incident Police from Kreeri Police station stopped a scooty driven by Hilal Ahmad Bukhari at a checkpoint, and recovered 1.95 kg of poppy straw-like substance from his possession. Stating that Bukhari was arrested, and the vehicle was seized, leading to the registration of FIR No. 57/2025 Police in its statement  reiterated its commitment to combat drug-related issues and appealed people to report any suspicious activities related to drug trafficking or abuse.
