24-Hour Hackathon CodeDay Kashmir 2025 begins at NIT Srinagar to inspire future technologists

Srinagar | : A free 24-hour hackathon, has officially begun at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar.

The 24-hour hackathon, CodeDay Kashmir 2025, is aimed at school and first-year undergraduate students from the Kashmir region are being given an opportunity to engage in technology, coding, and innovation. Organized by the Technology Club Students Gymkhana at NIT Srinagar in collaboration with Team CodeDay, the event is scheduled for July 12th to 13th and seeks to inspire young minds through hands-on projects. During the inaugural session, Prof. Atikur Rehman, the Institute’s Registrar, emphasized NIT Srinagar’s commitment to nurturing student talent and fostering technological skills. He acknowledged the hard work of the organizing team, including faculty and students, and highlighted the support from Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, the Director of NIT Srinagar, in hosting such significant events. The institute’s previous success with the Smart India Hackathon further establishes its reputation as a center for innovation in the region. The hackathon features a variety of workshops designed to build foundational skills and inspire creativity. It commenced with a Basics Workshop on Scratch programming, followed by an Advanced Workshop on Large Language Models (LLMs) and a GitHub workshop focused on collaborative coding and version control. A guest speaker session with technologist Afaan Bilal is also scheduled, culminating in a closing ceremony to celebrate participants’ efforts. Dr. Iqra Altaf, a key organizer, described CodeDay Kashmir 2025 as a celebration of learning and teamwork, aimed at inspiring the next generation of technologists. Hafsah Muzaffer, the Regional Manager, reiterated the event’s goal of promoting innovation and developing technology projects that address real-world problems, thereby fostering a vibrant tech community in Kashmir. The organizing team includes several key figures, such as Hafsah Muzaffer and Mohammad Hammad as Regional Managers, along with various organizers and mentors providing guidance. CodeDay, originally founded in the United States, has expanded globally, with CodeDay Kashmir being entirely student-led and supported by sponsors like GitHub and J&K Bank. The event attracted participants aged 10 to 20, with skill-based workshops led by volunteers and PhD students, equipping attendees with practical knowledge for the hackathon.
