Bandipora | : In order to assess the performance of Legal Aid Defence Counsels (LADCs) of district Bandipora, a monthly review meeting of LADCs was convened in the office chamber of Secretary, District Legal Services Authority (DLSA), Bandipora.
The meeting aimed to ensure that the LADCs are meeting the standards of service delivery as well as to identify challenges faced by them, and to discuss strategies for improvement of their work profile in dispensation of justice.
The meeting was chaired by Sheikh Babar Hussain, Secretary, DLSA Bandipora and the chief LADC along with his team participated in the said meeting.
Secretary DLSA, Bandipora reviewed their work done statements as per their job profile mentioned in LADC Modified Scheme, 2022.
Chief LADC presented the status of the cases assigned to them, including the number of cases sub-judice in the various courts, their disposal, and pendency. He submitted that a total of 64 cases are with them out of which 35 cases are of Sessions Trial and 29 are of Magisterial Trial.
Secretary DLSA, Bandipora reviewed the case files and registers maintained by the LADCs and observed that they are attending their cases properly and are maintaining their respective registers for handling remand work, bail work, legal assistance provided by them to the legal aid beneficiaries at pre-arrest, arrest and remand stage on daily basis.
Moreover, they have also maintained the relevant records regarding their visits paid to Police Stations and jails as per their job profile and also conducted awareness programmes as per calendar of activities issued by J&K LSA and direction of DLSA Bandipora.
Chief LADC brought several issues into the notice of the Secretary DLSA Bandipora and sought their redressal.
Secretary, DLSA Bandipora, assured the Chief LADC that he will take up the matter with the Member Secretary, J&K Legal Services Authority, for filling up the vacant posts of supporting staff at the earliest and extension of instant scheme to Peripheral courts.
It was resolved that the Legal Aid Defence Counsels shall ensure compliance with the resolutions adopted and Secretary, DLSA, Bandipora shall monitor the progress of the Legal Aid Defence Counsels and review their performance.
