Srinagar| July, 9 : Director General Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), G P Singh, on Wednesday conducted a comprehensive review of the security arrangements at the Nunwan Base Camp in Pahalgam, Anantnag district—one of the key starting points for the annual Amarnath Yatra.

The DG underscored the CRPF’s crucial role in facilitating a safe and smooth pilgrimage for all devotees. His visit forms part of a broader security assessment along the Yatra route. Singh traveled by road from Jammu to Srinagar yesterday, stopping at several locations along the pilgrimage route to assess the preparedness of deployed forces. Today, he focused his attention on the Nunwan Base Camp, from where pilgrims begin their journey to the holy cave shrine.

This year’s Yatra commenced on July 3 via the twin tracks of Nunwan–Pahalgam and Baltal–Ganderbal. So far, over one lakh devotees have performed darshan at the sacred cave.
“On Ground, In Command. As part of his journey along the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra route, DG CRPF @gpsinghips carried out a detailed review of the security setup at Nunwan Base Camp, Pahalgam—reinforcing CRPF’s active role in ensuring a safe and smooth pilgrimage for all devotees,” CRPF post on X said.

The DG also spent the night at the CRPF’s 116 Battalion headquarters in Pahalgam. During his stay, he held informal interactions with the troops, appreciating their efforts on the ground.

“At HQ 116 Bn, where he stayed overnight, the DG engaged in an informal interaction with the troops—highlighting the importance of the Yatra and our collective responsibility to make every devotee feel secure and at ease. He appreciated the personnel for their alertness, professionalism, and sense of purpose in service,” the post on X added.

In addition to providing layered security along the Yatra route, the CRPF also plays a vital role in disaster response and humanitarian assistance. Specialised Mountain Rescue Teams (MRTs) have been deployed by CRPF on both pilgrimage routes to respond swiftly to emergencies. The MRT stationed along the Baltal axis has already assisted several pilgrims and civilians who offer pony rides to yatris facing difficulties on the steep and treacherous terrain.
