Declare Holiday on July 13 officially to Commemorate Martyrs’ Day: Apni Party tells JK Govt
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterWhatsappTelegramEmail

Says “Govt couldn’t implement even 1% of its manifesto within 8 months, Release of detainees is overdue now”

Srinagar : Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari, President J&K Apni Party, has called for July 13 to be declared a gazetted holiday to honor the martyrs of 1931 and for the observance of Martyrs’ Day at the state level, as it was previously.
Addressing a party workers’ convention in Pulwama Bukhari criticized the current elected government for failing to fulfill its manifesto commitments within eight months of taking office. He highlighted the unfulfilled promises, including the provision of 200 units of free electricity to households, which was limited to a small percentage of the population, and the enhancement of ration quotas. He also pointed out the government’s failure to deliver on its pledge of one lakh jobs within three months and its claims regarding the restoration of Articles 370 and 35A. Bukhari expressed skepticism about the government’s efforts to restore statehood to Jammu and Kashmir. In response to questions about the potential nullification of Union Territory elections upon the restoration of statehood, Bukhari attributed the ruling party’s precarious position to its underperformance and unmet promises rather than external factors. He reiterated his demand for the release of prisoners, particularly those involved in past stone-pelting incidents, whom he believes were misled by certain political leaders. During the convention, Bukhari urged constituents to hold their elected representatives accountable, emphasizing the importance of civic engagement. Former Legislator Rafi Ahmad Mir elaborated on the formation of the Apni Party in March 2020, which arose from the political turmoil following the revocation of Jammu and Kashmir’s special status in August 2019. He noted that the party was established to advocate for the rights of the people, particularly concerning agricultural land and local employment, and to address the uncertainty faced by the region’s residents.
