Buenos Aires/New Delhi, July 5 (UNI) After receiving a warm welcome from the Indian diaspora here, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is on a two-day visit to Argentina, said that it is truly moving to see the spirit of India shining brightly through the Indian expatriates.

In a post on X, the Prime Minister wrote, “Distance is no barrier when it comes to cultural connect! Honoured by the gracious welcome from the Indian community in Buenos Aires. It is truly moving to see how, thousands of kilometres away from home, the spirit of India shines brightly through our Indian community.”

PM Modi’s visit to Argentina is aimed at strengthening bilateral relations and exploring opportunities for cooperation between the two nations.

PM Modi arrived in Buenos Aires on the third leg of his five-nation tour at the invitation of the President of the Republic of Argentina, Javier Milei.

As rare earth minerals play a critical role in various high-tech industries and the clean energy transition, which has prompted countries to actively engage to secure their access and Argentina is among several countries which is rich in critical minerals such as lithium, copper, and rare earth elements. Argentina also holds reserves of the world’s second-largest shale gas and the fourth-largest shale oil.

Upon arrival at the Ezeiza International Airport, he was accorded a ceremonial welcome and was welcomed with a traditional Indian dance performance.

Earlier, PM Modi had visited the country in 2018 for the G20 Summit.

Official Spokesperson of the Ministry of External Affairs, Randhir Jaiswal, said that this is the first bilateral visit by an Indian PM to Argentina in 57 years.

In a post on X, he said, “Celebrating the enduring friendship between our nations. PM Narendra Modi has landed in the vibrant city of Buenos Aires, Argentina, on an Official Visit. He was accorded a ceremonial welcome on arrival at the airport. This is the first bilateral visit by an Indian PM to Argentina in 57 years, marking a new chapter in India-Argentina ties.”
