Srinagar : A Ph.D. candidate from the Department of Mathematics at the National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar has been chosen to take part in the 14th Heidelberg Laureate Forum (HLF), scheduled to occur in Heidelberg, Germany, from September 13 to 22, 2025.
Samir Ahmad Wagay is currently engaged in his doctoral research under the guidance of Dr. Rameez Raja, an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics. His selection for this esteemed forum positions him among only 200 young researchers globally, selected through a rigorous competitive process. The Heidelberg Laureate Forum is recognized as one of the most prestigious gatherings in the domains of mathematics and computer science. It provides a unique platform for leading young researchers and Ph.D. students to closely interact with laureates of the most esteemed international awards, including the Abel Prize, ACM A.M. Turing Award, ACM Prize in Computing, Fields Medal, IMU Abacus Medal, and the Nevanlinna Prize.
The entire journey, encompassing international travel, accommodation, and participation expenses, will be entirely funded by the Heidelberg Laureate Forum Foundation. This financial support guarantees that participants can fully immerse themselves in the week-long schedule of lectures, workshops, and networking events without any financial constraints. In his message, the Director of NIT Srinagar, Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, conveyed his sincere congratulations to Wagay and commended the Department of Mathematics for its role in mentoring and guiding young researchers towards international opportunities. Registrar Prof. Atikur Rehman also congratulated Wagay, stating that his selection is a source of pride for the institute and serves as an inspiration for other research scholars striving for academic excellence. Dr. Rameez Raja, Wagay’s Ph.D. supervisor, expressed his delight regarding the selection, noting that such opportunities afford young researchers invaluable exposure to global scientific advancements and peer networks. HLF serves as a networking opportunity for young researchers.
