Awantipora : The Department of Mathematical Sciences at the Islamic University of Science and Technology (IUST) on Monday organized a One-Day Workshop to celebrate National Statistics Day 2025, focusing on the significance of Statistics and Data Science across various fields.
The workshop featured an invited lecture by Prof. Shalab from IIT Kanpur, who discussed the evolution of Statistics into Data Science, emphasizing their interconnections and importance in the context of big data and artificial intelligence. The event included an interactive session with Prof. Shalab, allowing students, research scholars, and participants from different colleges to engage in meaningful discussions and knowledge exchange. Active participation was noted from faculty, research scholars, and students, highlighting the workshop’s impact. Prof. A. H. Moon, Dean of Academic Affairs at IUST, underscored the vital role of Statistics in driving scientific innovation and technological progress. Dr. Abid H. Shalla, Dean of the School of Sciences, acknowledged the significant contributions of Prof. P. C. Mahalanobis to the Indian statistical system. Dr. Peer Bilal, Head of the Department of Mathematical Sciences, welcomed attendees and emphasized the relevance of National Statistics Day in today’s data-driven environment.
