Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Jammu celebrates 19th National Statistics Day

Jammu: The Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Jammu, under the guidance of Director General Economics & Statistics, J&K, Satvir Kour Sudan commemorated the 19th National Statistics Day Sunday, aligning with the nationwide observance dedicated to the birth anniversary of Professor Prasanta Chandra Mahalanobis, the pioneer of modern statistics in India. The theme for 2025 is “Celebrating 75 Years of National Sample Survey” marking the significant contribution of the National Sample Survey in providing reliable and timely statistical data that supports evidence-based decision-making and governance in India.
Ashu Gupta, Regional Director, Evaluation & Statistics, Jammu presided over the function & delivered the welcome address, acknowledging the dedication and contributions of the officers and officials from the Directorate of Economics & Statistics and the Regional Directorate of Evaluation & Statistics Jammu and School of Applied Economics & Statistics Jammu. She underscored the significance of the day’s theme and its relevance to the current statistical landscape. She also highlighted the pivotal role of the National Sample Survey in shaping data-driven policies and programs over the past seven and a half decades and emphasized upon the importance of accurate data collection and analysis in the formulation of effective governance strategies.
The function was also graced by Director (Central), Directorate of Economics & Statistics Suneel Pandita, Principal, School of Applied Economics & Statistics, Jammu, Deepa Sharma, Deputy Directors, DES, Mudassir Yaqoob Zargar and Rajesh Singh who participated in discussions about the advancements in statistical methodologies and the integration of technology in data collection and analysis. Celebration included other activities like speeches, group song and slogan making competition.
While giving vote of thanks, Rakesh Kumar (Deputy Director) lauded the joint efforts of officers/ Officials of Directorate of Economics & Statistics, Regional Directorate of Evaluation & Statistics, Jammu & School of Applied Economics & Statistics, Jammu in delivering data that drives policy, planning and upliftment across Jammu & Kashmir.
