Srinagar: Police on Saturday said that it has arrested a bootlegger in Sopore and also recovered illicit liquor from his possession, as part of their ongoing drive to curb illegal liquor trade in the area.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar, Police said that a police party during naka checking at Takiya Panzalla intercepted a suspect and upon search recovered five bottles of illicit liquor and eight tins of beer from the possession of the said accused who was identified as Babar Shamus Baba, S/O Shamas-ud-Din BabaR/O Chinkipora Sopore.
Stating that the said accused was immediately arrested and shifted to the police station, where he remains in custody Police in its statement further said that a case under FIR No. 44/2025 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Panzalla, Stating therein further that investigation is underway to identify the source and the broader supply chain involved. In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police reiterated its ccommitment to zero-tolerance policy towards illegal trade and narcotics, stating therein that individuals involved in such unlawful activities will face strict legal consequences. Police in its statement also reiterated its commitment to dismantle illicit networks to ensure a safer, addiction-free society.
