Outgoing student wins appreciation for AI tool on PCOS risk assessment
Srinagar : The National Institute of Technology (NIT) Srinagar has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura to promote collaborative research in machine learning (ML) and artificial intelligence (AI) aimed at enhancing healthcare diagnostics, treatment planning, and clinical decision-making. This partnership represents a strategic integration of engineering and medical sciences, focusing on creating a structured and ethical framework for AI applications in healthcare.
The MoU was signed by key representatives from both institutions, including the directors and registrars, and emphasizes several areas of cooperation that will facilitate data-driven medical innovations in the region. The collaboration aims to leverage real-world medical challenges to empower students and develop impactful solutions. Prof. Binod Kumar Kanaujia, Director of NIT Srinagar, highlighted the potential of AI and ML to revolutionize healthcare delivery, while Prof. M. Ashraf Ganie, Director of SKIMS, noted that the partnership would enhance evidence-based medicine and accelerate the development of diagnostic tools, particularly for diseases prevalent in Kashmir. The MoU outlines a commitment to utilizing anonymized clinical data from SKIMS for research, enabling NIT Srinagar to develop advanced ML algorithms for improved clinical decision-making and personalized treatment models. Additionally, the collaboration will foster interdisciplinary research, encouraging both institutions to publish findings in peer-reviewed journals and present at conferences. The initiative aims to create a scalable model for applying AI and ML across various medical disciplines, ultimately benefiting patient care and the healthcare community through continuous innovation. A notable highlight of the event was a presentation by an NIT Srinagar student on an AI-driven project for early detection of PCOS risk among women, showcasing the practical applications of the partnership.
