Srinagar : To commemorate the ‘International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking,’ the police organized a series of public awareness events across the Kashmir Valley, emphasizing their commitment to combat the escalating drug problem. The main event took place at the Youth Development and Rehabilitation Center in Eidgah, Srinagar, where Dr. Mohammad Muzafer Khan, the Director, welcomed attendees, including Chief Guest Peer Zahoor Ahmad, SO to DIG CKR, and other dignitaries. During the event, Peer Zahoor Ahmad highlighted the importance of proactive measures in preventing drug addiction, while SP North shared insights on the detrimental effects of drugs. Participants expressed gratitude towards the YDRC for its support and affordable services in addressing drug addiction. In addition to the main event, various districts, including Shopian, Anantnag, Budgam, and others, hosted debates, rallies, seminars, and awareness drives aimed at educating the public. These initiatives aligned with a global call to action for a united response against drug abuse, focusing on awareness, education, and community policing. Officers from J&K Police engaged with the youth, encouraging them to reject narcotics and promote a drug-free society. The Anti-Narcotics Task Force (ANTF) Kashmir, in collaboration with KRSF, also organized a rally under the slogan “Choose Life, Not Drugs.” Throughout these events, district heads reaffirmed J&K Police’s zero-tolerance policy towards narcotics and psychotropic substances. The police continue to implement community outreach, education, and rehabilitation programs aimed at preventing drug abuse and facilitating the social reintegration of affected individuals, as part of a comprehensive strategy that combines legal action with sustained public awareness efforts.
