18 insanitary huts demolished in Sainik Colony

Jammu : To strengthen civic infrastructure ahead of the monsoon season, Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Dr. Devansh Yadav Thursday conducted a whirlwind tour of several wards in South Jammu to assess the status of civic amenities and infrastructure within the jurisdiction of Jammu Municipal Corporation.
During the visit, the Commissioner visited the areas including Green Belt, Gandhi Nagar, and Ambedkar Nagar and took stock of the drainage systems and identified key water-logging points to ensure timely mitigation of flood risks and public inconvenience during the forthcoming rainy season. The visit was aimed at reviewing preparedness and taking corrective measures wherever necessary.
Dr. Yadav reiterated the Corporation’s commitment to ensuring improved sanitation, enhanced public health standards, and comprehensive monsoon preparedness with active cooperation from citizens and stakeholders. He also stressed for desilting of drains and nallahs and removal of broken pipes with coordination with line deptts on war footing basis.
Earlier, Dr. Yadav also visited the Urban Forestry Division Nursery at Talab Tillo, Jammu, where DFO Urban Jammu, Ashwani Kumar Mittal, apprised him of the developmental works undertaken under the National Clean Air Prog (NCAP). The Commissioner was informed that the capacity of the nursery is being upgraded to accommodate 1.5 lakh saplings. The infrastructure enhancement includes construction of state-of-the-art shade houses and greenhouses equipped with sprinklers and mist irrigation systems and temperature control mechanis This development is expected to boost the supply of quality seedlings and meet the growing demand for plantation initiatives undertaken by JMC.
Later, the Enforcement and Revenue wings of JMC, in coordination with the local police, carried out a major demolition drive at Sainik Colony. As many as 18 insanitary huts were demolished across seven different locations. The plot owners have been directed not to permit or support the construction of such unauthorized and insanitary structures on their premises. JMC has warned that violations of these directives will attract action under the relevant provisions of law.
Among others, Joint Commissioner, (R&E) Subah Mehta, Joint Commissioner (H&S) Abdul Star, Deputy Commissioner (South) JMC Lal Chand, Executive Engineer, UEED, Ashwani Kumar, Chief Transport Officer Dharamveer Singh, Chief Revenue Officer, Sunil Gupta, Enforcement Officers, Harditya Singh, besides other senior officers of JMC accompanied the Commissioner during the tour.
