Participants take Nasha Mukt Rajouri Pledge
Rajouri : The Distt Administration Rajouri, on the directions of Distt Development CommissionerAbhishek Sharma, Thursday organized an awareness prog to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking at the Distt Headquarters.
The prog witnessed enthusiastic participation from a cross-section of society including health professionals, educationists, students, media persons, and members of the civil society, who came together and pledged to contribute towards a Nasha Mukt Rajouri.
The event commenced with a formal welcome address followed by a pledge-taking ceremony, reaffirming the collective resolve to combat substance abuse. A compelling video presentation highlighting the journey from addiction to recovery was screened, setting the tone for the sessions ahead.
Head of Department Psychiatry, GMC Rajouri Dr. Parvaiz Alam delivered an insightful lecture, explaining the signs of addiction and the importance of timely intervention.
Students from various schools engaged the audience through a thought-provoking elocution competition on the theme “Nasha Mukt Bharat”.
Speaking on the occasion, Distt Social Welfare Officer Abdul Raheem provided an overview of key government schemes, helplines, and the pivotal role of welfare officers in supporting individuals battling addiction. He also shared the details of the ongoing Information, Education and Communication (IEC) Campaign being conducted under the Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyaan across Panchayats and Urban Local Bodies in the distt.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police (Headquarters) underscored the role of law enforcement in curbing the drug menace and informed the gathering about punitive measures under the NDPS Act. He urged the youth to resist peer pressure and assured continued vigilance and support from the police in creating a drug-free society.
Chief Medical Officer spoke on the severe health consequences of drug abuse and highlighted the available healthcare interventions, including counseling, treatment, and rehabilitation services under the Nasha Mukt Bharat initiative.
A representative from the Distt Legal Services Authority (DLSA) spoke on legal provisions under the NDPS Act and reiterated the importance of legal awareness in fighting the spread of drugs in society.
The event was attended by Secretary, DLSA Rajouri; Prog Officer, Mission Poshan; CDPO; Distt Youth Services & Sports Officer; Distt Cultural Officer; Chief Education Officer; and officials from other deptts.
The prog concluded with a felicitation ceremony, wherein winners of various competitions—Painting, Debate, Sports, Quiz, and Essay Writing—organized in Higher Secondary Schools across the distt under the “Nasha Mukt Bharat Abhiyan” theme were honoured.
The event culminated with a Signature Campaign, symbolizing a united stand against drug abuse and reaffirming the distt’s commitment towards a healthy, safe, and addiction-free society.
