Theft case solved in Awantipora, 5 accused arrested, Stolen property recovered: Police

Srinagar : Police on Wednesday said that it has solved a theft case by arresting five persons involved in the commission of crime and recovered stolen property from their possession here in Awantipora .
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that Police Station Awantipora on 23rd June this year received a written complaint from one Mohd Zubair regarding the theft of cattle from village Barsoo and thereafter a case under FIR No. 145/2025 under relevant sections of law was registered in Police Station Awantipora besides initiating further investigations.
Stating that during the investigation, a police team constituted under the close supervision of SDPO Awantipora Raja Majid Batt, headed by SHO Police Station Awantipora DySP (P) Aatif Zahoor conducted a thorough investigation Police in its statement further said that while gathering leads and intelligence from the local area the team brought for questioning one suspect, Azam Bakerwal S/O Maqmood Bakerwal R/O Dat Gund Gulshapora Tral who accused confessed his involvement in the crime along with four other individuals. Police in its statement further said that subsequently, the remaining four accused identified as Nisar Ahmad Mir S/o Sanaullah Mir R/o YK Pora Qazigund, Rashid Ahmad Mir S/o Mohd Yaqoub Mir R/o Kuchipora Qazigund, Liyaqat Ali S/o Makhan Ahmad Bomla R/o Kudigam Qazigund and Mohd Sabir Khari S/o Mulla Bakerwal R/o Gulshanpora Tral were also arrested, Stating therein furthermore that all the said accused confessed their involvement in the commission of the crime.
Stating that on the disclosure of the said accused 34 Sheep and Goat were recovered which were handed over to their rightful owners after completion of legal formalities Police in its statement further said that further investigation is going on. In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police reiterated its commitment to protect public property and maintain law and order, appealing therein people to remain vigilant and cooperate in law enforcement to help curb criminal activities.
