“Iran faces a critical choice, It has to either  show strength to challenge US and Israel or accept the ground realities that may develop in the wake of a long drawn regional war”

On Sunday morning, US President Donald Trump decided to involve United States in Israel’s conflict with Iran. The engagement of US in the deadly conflict started with the bombing on three key Iranian nuclear sites at Fordow, Isfahan, and Natanz. For Iran it is a do or die situation as it has to either demonstrate huge strength to engage US and Israel into a long drawn military conflict or surrender before US and Israel the possibility of which is currently ruled out by defense experts in view of the realignment of world’s top military powers. Though President Trump has claimed that US strikes on Iran have been effective, but all depends on response from Iran.  While forcing Iran to surrender can give America the strength to re-establish its position as world’s unchallenged top military power one again but Iran’s strength to push US into a larger regional war will mostly likely put the military interests of US at stake in the Middle East.  President Trump while claiming that US strikes on Iran nuclear sites were successful has said that it will take time for the world to understand how the bombings will affect Iran’s nuclear sites. So President Trump’s remark on the result of war after bombing three key Iranian nuclear sites endorses the bigger global diplomatic opinion that nothing can be said about the outcome of Israel-Iran conflict till Iran decides on retaliation against US strikes as Iran continues to intensify its retaliation against Israel only so for. Interestingly global response to the American airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites surrounds around calls for de-escalation from some highly influential countries like India, China and Russia.

“President Trump’s recent remark on bombing Iranian nuclear sites reflects global diplomatic uncertainty over the Israel-Iran conflict and Iran’s ongoing retaliation. Global response pushes for de-escalation, while Iran continues to intensify its attacks. The impact of American airstrikes on Iran remains unclear, with the Iranian government showing resilience despite significant damage.”

Fact remains that despite heavy damages to its military, intelligence services, and the nuclear science community the Iranian government has been able to survive and is consistently responding to attacks of Israel with greater intensity. It is unclear if the American attacks will seriously hurt the Iranian government or strengthen its pride in support of the Islamic Republic.   Since the bombing on three Iranian nuclear sites US has been steadily increasing its military presence in the Gulf. This includes two aircraft carriers and several B-2 bombers that can use special bombs to destroy the Fordow nuclear facility, which is located deep inside a mountain. In a short statement about the bombing decision, Trump said that the strikes were meant to stop Iran from developing nuclear weapons and that the next step is up to Iran. “I traveled to Iran.” He said that if Iran chooses peace, there could be important diplomatic efforts to find a solution. So while warning Iran of more deadly attacks on military and civilian installations President Trump is keeping the diplomatic option open just to ward off the pressure that international community is mounting on US and Israel for de-escalation and respond to diplomatic engagement much before Iran carries out retaliatory attack on US as well.
