5 Drug Peddlers arrested in Sopore, Kulgam: Police

Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has arrested five drug peddlers in Sopore and Kulgam and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Sopore, one Mehraj-ud-Din Mir S/o Abdul Khaliq Mir R/o Chijhama Rafiabad, was arrested along with contraband substance during a checkpoint at Lalad near Bridge, adding therein that in another similar operation at Takyibal, another supect identified as Bilal Ahmad Dar S/o Ghulam Mohammad Dar R/o Chankhan Sopore was apprehended with poppy straw-like substance.
Stating that a Police team of Kulgam district at a checkpoint established at Arreh intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK18D-3833 with two suspects identified as Nazir Ahmad Kumar S/o Bashir Ahmad Kumar R/o Awhatoo Kulgam and Ghulam Rasool Malla S/o Mohd Ismail Malla R/o Khudwani on board Police in its statement further said during search recovered 8.1 Kgs of Poppy Straw-like substance was recovered from the possession of the said accused who were arrested besides which the vehicle used in the commission of crime was also seized.
Police in its statement further said that in yet another similar action a police team of Police Station Kulgam along with concerned executive magistrate while acting on specific inputs about presence of contraband substance in the house of one Murad Ahmad Behroo S/o Ghulam Mohammad Behroo R/o Matalham raided the spot, adding therein that during search, 800 grams of Poppy Straw like substance was recovered from the said residential house following which the house owner was arrested.
Stating that cases under relevant sections of law were registered besides initiating further investigations Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement police reiterated its commitment to dismantle the narcotics network for establishing a drug-free society.
