Srinagar: Police on Tuesday said that it has secured conviction from the District Court of Principal District and Sessions Judge Ganderbal against a rape accused namely Ghulam Mohammad Lone S/o Abdul Samad Lone R/o Pethpora Chattergul, in connection with FIR No. 27/2017 under section 376, 451 RPC of Police Station Kangan in which the accused has been sentenced to 10 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of ₹1,00,000 (One Lakh Rupees).
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that the case was initiated on the basis of a complaint received on 13th April 2017 from a woman resident of Pethpora Chattergul, who had accused the said Chattergul resident of forcibly entering her house and raping her, which subsequently led to pregnancy.
Stating that Court, after thorough trial proceedings and examination of evidence, delivered the judgment, bringing justice to the survivor Police in its statement further said that the prosecution was diligently conducted by Public Prosecutor Shafat Ahmad (PP Sessions Court Ganderbal), who represented the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir in the case.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police said that the conviction highlights the unwavering commitment of the judiciary and law enforcement agencies towards ensuring justice in cases of crimes against women.
