DC Ramban reviews disaster preparedness, mitigation strategies ahead of monsoon, Amarnath Yatra

Ramban : Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Alyas Khan Tuesday convened a meeting of frontline departments to discuss Disaster Preparedness and the effective implementation of the mitigation Plan in the district, especially in view of the upcoming monsoon season and Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY), 2025.
The meeting was attended by SSP Kulbir Singh, SSP Traffic NHW Raja Adil Hamid Ganaie, ADC Varunjeet Singh Charak, ACR Dr. Shokat Hayat Mattoo, SDMs, Tehsildars, Dy. SPs and heads of all frontline departments.
Referring to the natural calamities witnessed in the recent past, the Deputy Commissioner stressed the need for effective implementation of the District Disaster Management Plan with special focus on Hazard Vulnerability Capacity and Risk Assessment (HVCRA), prevention, mitigation, preparedness, response protocols and standard operating procedures.
The DC directed the stakeholder departments dealing with emergencies and disasters to remain in a state of alertness and preparedness, especially during the monsoon period and during the SANJY-2025. He underlined the need for keeping the Quick Response Teams (QRTs), SDRF, Civil Defence and Tehsil Disaster Management Committees on high alert.
He directed for ensuring flawless functioning of Control Rooms established at the district level to coordinate and respond to any emergent situation.
Later, the Deputy Commissioner, accompanied by the team of officers inspected the ongoing construction work of the cut-and-cover tunnel at Mehar, which is nearing completion. He directed the Project Director National Highway Authority to deploy adequate manpower and machinery at all vulnerable spots along NH-44 from Na to Banihal to ensure the smooth flow of traffic and timely response to any incident.
