DC Pankaj Kumar Sharma on Tuesday convened a meeting of the line departments to review the arrangements for the Urs of Shah Farid-Ud-Din Sahib (RA), scheduled on June 21, 2025.
The DC inquired about the measures initiated for logistic and civic amenities including the provision of accommodation for visiting devotees, power and water supply, firewood, ration, LPG, sanitation, security, medical care, transportation, fire tender services and overall traffic management. He issued a slew of directions to the concerned departments.
SSP Kishtwar assured that comprehensive security arrangements will be put in place during the Urs celebrations.
The DC directed the XEN, Jal Shakti, to ensure the availability of sufficient drinking water for devotees/Ziareens at all shrines and at Biat-Ul-Ziareen, with a backup provision of water tankers.
The DC also directed the EO Municipal Council to carry out repair and replacement of non-functional streetlights in the town and adjoining areas of the shrines, and in the Chowgan ground to facilitate hassle-free movement of devotees. He also emphasized cleanliness around both shrines and stressed the lime lining of roads leading to them.
Additionally, the ARTO, DTI and police administration were instructed to devise a proper transport plan, arrange additional buses for the smooth to-and-fro movement of pilgrims, and manage traffic and vehicle parking effectively.
The JPDCL was directed to ensure uninterrupted power supply at both shrines and the accommodation areas for Ziareens, with provisions for generator sets as backup.
The Deputy Commissioner also directed for setting up of a Joint Information Dissemination Booth by the Civil Administration and Police to spread awareness, provide information and facilitate public announcements.
Representatives from the Auqaf Kishtwar and Sajada-e-Nasheen (from both shrines) apprised the DC of various issues. The DC listened attentively and issued necessary directions on the spot, assuring them of full support from the administration.
Necessary directions were also given to the FCS&CA, Health Department, Fire and Emergency Services for making efficient and adequate arrangements.
The meeting was attended by Naresh Singh, SSP Kishtwar; Pawan Kotwal, ADC Kishtwar; Idrees Lone, ACR Kishtwar; Rishi Kumar Sharma, PO ICDS Kishtwar; Kaiser Bhawani, CEO Kishtwar Development Authority besides other District and Sectoral Officers and representatives of socio-religious organizations.
