DC inaugurates Public Park at Gangoo, stresses Sanitation, Medical Aid and Inter-departmental coordination

Pulwama : In view of the forthcoming holy month of Muharram, Deputy Commissioner (DC) Pulwama, Dr. Basharat Qayoom, today undertook a detailed visit of various Shia-populated areas of the district to review arrangements being made for the smooth and peaceful conduct of Muharram processions and related religious observances.
DC visited the prominent Imambaras at Gangoo, Wakherwan, and Panner Tral, where he held detailed interactions with members of the respective committees, community elders, and local residents.
During the visit, several issues concerning the area were brought to the notice of the administration, including the need for uninterrupted power and water supply, cleanliness of procession routes, medical facilities, street lighting, and repairs to roads and public utilities.
Responding to the concerns raised, DC assured that all possible measures shall be taken to address concerns in a time-bound manner. He reiterated the commitment of the district administration to ensure that all arrangements are in place well before the commencement of Muharram.
“All departments have been directed to work in close coordination to provide necessary facilities to the public and ensure a peaceful atmosphere and smooth observance of Muharram,” DC stated.
He also directed officers of concerned departments to ensure cleanliness in and around Imambaras, maintain sanitation along the procession routes, and mobilise resources for timely repairs and lighting arrangements. He laid special emphasis on strengthening health services during the period, including deployment of medical teams and ambulances at key congregation points.
On the occasion, DC also inaugurated a public park at Gangoo, developed as a recreational space for local residents. While interacting with the gathering there, Dr. Qayoom underlined the district administration’s ongoing efforts to improve basic amenities and community infrastructure.
DC was accompanied by Senior Superintendent of Police Pulwama, P.D. Nitya; Additional Deputy Commissioners of Pulwama & Tral; Chief Medical Officer, Pulwama; Executive Engineers of R&B, Jal Shakti and KPDCL, concerned Tehsildars, Block Development Officers and other district officers.
Dr Qayoom urged all departments to treat Muharram arrangements with utmost seriousness and ensure seamless coordination in facilitation of religious observances.
