Nicosia(Cyprus)|June,16 : Prime Minister Narendra Modi was awarded the Grand Cross of the Order of Makarios III, the highest honor in Cyprus, by President Nikos Christodoulides during a ceremony at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia. This prestigious award, named after the first president of Cyprus, recognizes significant contributions to the nation and is typically conferred upon heads of state and distinguished individuals.
In his acceptance speech, Prime Minister Modi expressed heartfelt gratitude to President Christodoulides, the Cypriot government, and the people of Cyprus, emphasizing that the honor represents not only his achievements but also those of 1.4 billion Indians. He dedicated the award to the strong bilateral relations between India and Cyprus, highlighting shared values and cultural connections, particularly the ideology of “Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam.” Modi underscored the importance of this recognition as a commitment to peace, security, and prosperity for both nations, expressing confidence that their partnership would reach new heights.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) spokesperson, Randhir Jaiswal, reiterated the significance of the award as a symbol of the enduring friendship between India and Cyprus, reflecting a shared vision for peace and progress. PM Modi’s visit marked the first by an Indian Prime Minister to Cyprus in over two decades, and he received a warm welcome from the Indian diaspora upon his arrival.
During his visit, PM Modi engaged with leading CEOs in a business roundtable, discussing India’s reform trajectory and the potential for collaboration in sectors such as innovation, energy, and technology. The Cypriot Presidency highlighted the deepening economic cooperation between the two nations, emphasizing a new era of strategic partnership founded on trust and shared values. Together, India and Cyprus aim to foster cooperation and prosperity, sending a strong message of hope for the future.
