Srinagar: Police on Saturday said that it has booked a habitual drug peddler under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (PIT NDPS) Act here in Handwara and lodged him in jail.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that the accused Feroz Ahmad Khan S/o Late Abdul Ahad Khan R/o Panditpora Kralgund, has been repeatedly involved in narcotics trafficking despite facing multiple FIRs, adding therein that his persistent criminal activities posed a serious threat to public safety, particularly the youth of the area.
Stating that following the due procedure, competent authority after perusing the material evidences brought on record for its analysis, the detention of the accused under PIT NDPS Act which was subsequently approved by the competent authority, Police in its statement further said that this preventive detention is a targeted measure to incapacitate chronic offenders and disrupt the local narcotics supply chain.
Police in its statement further said that this action reflects Police’s firm resolve to dismantle the drug ecosystem and protect the future of youth, Stating therein further that a multi-faceted strategy—combining preventive detention, strict law enforcement, and active public engagement— shall continue to build a drug-free Handwara.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police appealed people to remain vigilant and continue cooperating by sharing any information that can help eradicate the drug menace from our society.
