Distt Admin Srinagar organizes Tabletop Exercise on Flood Disaster preparedness

DC Srinagar leads practical demonstration to tackle emergency situation

Srinagar: In order to assess and strengthen the district’s emergency response mechanism, district administration Srinagar, Saturday organized a Tabletop Exercise on Flood Disaster preparedness here in the DC office complex.
The Tabletop Exercise was followed by a comprehensive practical demonstration.
Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Dr. Bilal Mohi-Ud-Din Bhat, who is also the Chairman District Disaster Management Authority, presided over the event.
Additional District Magistrate and Chief Executive Officer (CEO), DDMA Srinagar, Aadil Fareed; CEO, DMRR, Dr. Amir Hussain; Deputy Secretary, DMRRR, Snowber Jameel and other concerned were present during the exercise.
The exercise, aimed to simulate emergency situations, outline the roles and responsibilities of key disaster managers, and learn from domain experts about the latest trends in flood disaster relief, was organised in joint collaboration of DDMA Srinagar with J&K level DMA.
It provided an opportunity for these agencies to highlight the significance of their respective roles and the specialized tools at their disposal during flood emergencies.
On the occasion, DC commended the active participation and coordination among all stakeholders. He reiterated the significance of preparedness in mitigating the impacts of disasters and ensuring the safety and well-being of the public.
He added that the initiative reflects the administration’s unwavering commitment to disaster resilience and the safety of the residents of Srinagar
During the event, participating departments showcased their preparedness through demonstrations of specialized equipment crucial for floods.
A key segment of the exercise featured a detailed presentation by the Additional District Magistrate and CEO, DDMA Srinagar. He elaborated on the operational framework of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) and the Incident Response System (IRS), emphasizing the collaborative efforts required during and after a disaster to ensure effective response and recovery.
Deputy Secretary, DMRRR, underscored the importance of such tabletop exercises in evaluating and refining disaster response strategies. He highlighted the collaborative approach adopted by various departments to address potential challenges.
CEO, DMRR, also lauded the participation and coordination among all stakeholders.
The successful execution of this exercise was made possible through the dedicated efforts of Consultant Mushtaq Ahmad and the District Emergency Operations Centre (DEOC) team in Srinagar, who meticulously organized and managed the event.
The Tabletop Exercise and practical demonstration was participated by the teams of National Disaster Response Force, State Disaster Response Force, Fire & Emergency Services, Civil Defence, Health Department, Irrigation & Flood Control (I&FC) Department.
