Srinagar: Police on Saturday said that it has seized 8 tippers, 1 tractor and 1 JCB from different locations across Police District Handwara for their involvement in illegal extraction and transportation of minerals.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that while acting on inputs, police teams from various police stations carried out coordinated enforcement drives and during these operations, the vehicles were found transporting minerals without valid documentation, in violation of the Jammu and Kashmir Minor Mineral Concession, Storage, Transportation of Minerals and Prevention of Illegal Mining Rules, 2016. In its statement further said that this drive underscores the unwavering commitment of Police to protect the region’s natural resources, ensure environmental safety, and uphold the rule of law, reiterating therein that strict legal action will continue against all violators in the coming days.
In the concluding para of the above quoted statement police urged people to cooperate with law enforcement agencies and report any suspicious mining activities through official channels or by visiting the nearest police station.
