Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that it has booked a chronic drug peddler under the stringent Prevention of Illicit Traffic in Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (PIT NDPS) in Sopore and lodged him in Kishtwar Jail.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that the accused, Farooq Ahmed Mir S/o Abdul Rasheed Mir R/o Adipora Sopore, had been persistently involved in narcotics trafficking despite multiple FIRs and arrests. Stating that continued activities of the said accused posed a serious threat to public health and youth safety, Police in its statement further said that following detailed dossier preparation and sanction by the competent authority, the accused was detained under PIT NDPS Act provisions aimed at incapacitating repeat offenders and curbing the local drug supply chain.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police said that this decisive action shows unwavering commitment of J&K Police to dismantle the drug ecosystem and protectthe future of youth, appealing therein people to continue extending support and share any information that can help root out this menace.
