Anantnag: In a significant step towards agricultural transformation and tribal empowerment, Member of Legislative Assembly (MLA) Kokernag, Choudhary Zafar, Monday addressed a large gathering of tribal farmers during a day-long awareness programme held under the banner of Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan (VKSA) at Gadwail, Kokernag.
The event was organized by Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Anantnag, in collaboration with various departments from the agriculture and allied sectors, with an aim to disseminate knowledge, promote sustainable farming practices, and strengthen the resolve for a self-reliant agricultural ecosystem in tribal areas.
Addressing the gathering, MLA emphasized the importance of scientific intervention in agriculture and reiterated the government’s commitment to tribal welfare. “Empowering our tribal farmers with modern knowledge and resources is key to inclusive development. The Viksit Krishi Sankalp Abhiyan is a vital initiative to bridge the gap between traditional practices and technological advancement,” he said.
The programme saw the participation of agricultural scientists, field officers, and experts from allied departments, who shared vital information and practical strategies with the farmers.
Dr. Ishtiyaq Ahmad Khan, Head of KVK Anantnag, provided insights into the objectives of VKSA and urged the farming community to actively engage with the available agricultural schemes and scientific services, adding that KVK Anantnag is committed to extending its full support to the farming community, especially in tribal belts. VKSA is designed to inspire and capacitate farmers to adopt best practices for higher productivity and resilience.
Experts from line departments including Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry, Fisheries and Sericulture elaborated on inter-sectoral approaches to agricultural sustainability and diversification. Farmers were also informed about the benefits of integrated farming, organic agriculture and agri-entrepreneurship.
The event concluded with an interactive session where farmers shared their experiences and concerns, which were addressed by the panel of experts.
