Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers in Kupwara, Sopore & Kulgam and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police team of Police Post Drugmulla at a checkpoint established at Drugmulla Market intercepted a suspect identified as Shahrukh Shafi Mir S/o Mohammad Shafi Mir R/o Kupwara and during search recovered substantial quantity of Charas like substance from his possession, adding therein that the said accused was also subsequently arrested.
Stating that in Sopore also a police team arrested a drug peddler at a checkpoint established at Chinar Crossing, Warpora and identified him as Ghulam Hassan Dar S/o Ghulam Mohiuddin Dar R/o Mohalla Teliyan Arampora, Sopore , Police in its statement further said that during search, charas-like substance was recovered from the possession of the said accused.
Police in its statement furthermore said that in Kulgam also, a Police team from Police Post Mirbazar while patrolling at Furrah near Railway Track intercepted a suspect identified as Farooq Ahmad Mir S/o Ghulam Ahmad Mir R/o Zadoora and during search recovered Poppy Straw like substance weighing 1.19 Kg from his possession.
Stating that ases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations besides initiating further investigation Police in its statement further said that efforts are on to trace the source of the contraband and any possible links to a broader narcotics network operating in these areas.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police reiterated its commitment to dismantling the narcotics network and ensure a drug-free society, appealing therein people to continue extending support to combat this growing threat.
