Srinagar: Below is the weeklong timeline of key engagements of J&K Lt Governor Manoj Sinha and Chief Minister Omar Abdullah witnessed within and outside J&K This week:-
1. LG Sinha’s Address Jat Sabha, Vows to Eradicate Terrorism: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha addressed the All J&K Jat Sabha in Jammu, praising the armed forces’ valor and reaffirming the government’s resolve to eliminate terrorism in Jammu and Kashmir. Highlighting the recent Pahalgam attack on April 22 that killed 26 civilians, Sinha emphasized a united front against anti-national elements to ensure lasting peace in the region.
2. CM Abdullah Proposes Tourism Revival Strategy: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah proposed a dual strategy to revive Jammu and Kashmir’s tourism sector, severely hit by the April 22 Pahalgam attack. Speaking ahead of a planned cabinet meeting in Pahalgam, he suggested hosting parliamentary committee meetings and PSU events in the region to restore confidence and boost the economy, which has seen a sharp decline in bookings.
3. LG Sinha Flags Off Physics Bharat Yatra In Udhampur: LG Manoj Sinha launched the ‘Physics Bharat Yatra’ in Udhampur, a nationwide initiative to promote scientific innovation. Addressing attendees, he underscored physics’ role in advancing technology and improving societal living standards, urging students and researchers to drive India’s knowledge economy forward for sustainable development.
4. Abdullah Prepares for Historic Pahalgam Cabinet Meeting: CM Omar Abdullah finalized plans for a special cabinet meeting in Pahalgam on May 27, the first outside Srinagar or Jammu. The meeting, aimed at countering the tourism downturn post-Pahalgam attack, was set to demonstrate resilience and encourage tourists to return, with Abdullah planning to meet local tourism stakeholders.
5. LG Sinha Supports Pahalgam Cabinet Meeting’s Message: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha endorsed the special cabinet meeting held in Pahalgam, led by CM Abdullah. While not physically present, Sinha’s administration supported the symbolic gesture to counter terrorism’s impact, reinforcing the government’s commitment to restoring peace and boosting tourism in the region after the April 22 attack.
6. CM Abdullah Chairs Landmark Pahalgam Cabinet Meeting: CM Omar Abdullah chaired a historic cabinet meeting in Pahalgam, the first outside Srinagar or Jammu, to send a defiant message against terrorism following the April 22 attack that killed 26 people. He met tourism stakeholders, proposed financial support for affected businesses, and emphasized tourism’s “conflict-neutral” role in driving economic recovery.
7. LG Sinha’s Engagement With Kashmir Women’s Organisation: LG Manoj Sinha met members of the Kashmir Women’s Organisation in Srinagar, commending their efforts in women’s empowerment. He pledged government support for initiatives promoting education, skill development, and economic opportunities, aiming to strengthen community development and social progress in Jammu and Kashmir.
8. Abdullah Stresses Unified Action Against Terrorism: At a cabinet meeting in Gulmarg, CM Omar Abdullah called for coordination among the Union government, elected government, and Lieutenant Governor to prevent repeats of the Pahalgam attack. He reiterated ongoing statehood talks with the Centre during the NITI Aayog meeting, emphasizing resilience and economic revival through tourism.
