Shopian: To mark ‘World No Tobacco Day,’ District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) Shopian, in collaboration with the Health Department Shopian, on Saturday organized an impactful awareness program at ANMT School, Shopian.
The event aimed to raise public consciousness about the grave health and social consequences of tobacco use and promote the vision of a tobacco-free society.
Program witnessed active participation from a large number of ASHA workers, Anganwadi workers, students, and PLVs, reflecting a strong community commitment to the cause.
Speaking on the occasion, CMO Shopian, Dr. Arshid Hussain Tak highlighted the serious health hazards associated with both smoking and smokeless tobacco.
He emphasized the need for effective cessation programs and community-level interventions to reduce tobacco dependency and prevent related diseases.
Other speakers from the health and legal fraternity also shared their insights, focusing on community health initiatives, legal awareness, and the importance of coordinated efforts in enforcing tobacco control laws like COTPA.
