One-day CBP held on ‘Child Protection and Explosive Ordnance Risk Education’ at DCC B’la

Baramulla: Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority (JKLSA), in partnership with UNICEF India, conducted a one-day Capacity Building Programme (CBP) on ‘Child Protection and Explosive Ordnance Risk Education (EORE)’ on Wednesday at the District Court Complex (DCC) Baramulla.
The programme, organized under the NALSA (Child-Friendly Legal Services for Children) Scheme–2024, aimed to raise awareness and strengthen the capacity of key stakeholders on critical issues related to child protection. Special emphasis was placed on addressing the risks posed by explosive remnants of war, a persistent and serious concern in border and conflict-affected regions.
Member Secretary, Jammu and Kashmir Legal Services Authority (JKLSA), Shazia Tabasum, Secretary DLSA Baramulla, Javaid Ahmad, President Bar Association Baramulla, Adv. Nelofer, Representative from UNICEF India, Judicial Officers, Lawyers, Para Legal Volunteers (PLVs) and various other stakeholders were present during the workshop.
Speaking on the occasion, Member Secretary JKLSA, said that the need for holding today’s program is to uphold the rights of the most vulnerable sections of our society — our children. She further said that judicial officers have a pivotal role to play in this connection ensuring justice for children, in alignment with international laws and standards.
Earlier, Secretary DLSA emphasized the importance of collaborative efforts in safeguarding the rights of children and equipping communities with the knowledge needed to mitigate risks associated with explosive ordnance. He stressed the need for sensitization at grassroots levels, especially in vulnerable areas.
Meanwhile, Advocate Nelofer spoke on the legal frameworks surrounding child protection, physical impact of unexploded ordnance on vulnerable children, and the role of legal aid institutions in preventing and responding to such threats.
Various speakers and subject-matter experts shared valuable insights with the participants, emphasizing the importance of an integrated inter-departmental approach.
They highlighted the role of collaboration as a key strategy for strengthening legal service institutions dedicated to the protection and welfare of children.
