Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has arrested a drug peddler in Kupwara and also recovered contraband substances from his possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a Police team of Police Post Bazar at a checkpoint established at Geerhatchi, intercepted a suspect identified as Faisal Ahmad Sheikh S/o Mushtaq Ahmad Sheikh R/o Kupwara who on seeing naka party tried to flee from the spot but was apprehended tactfully, adding therein that during search, heroin-like substance was recovered from the possession of the said accused who was subsequently arrested.
Stating that a case under FIR No. 149/2025 under relevant sections of law was registered at Police Station Kupwara besides initiating further investigations Police in its statement further said that the preliminary investigation revealed the active involvement of the accused in the supply and distribution of narcotics, particularly targeting the youth in Kupwara town and the Hyhama belt, thereby contributing to the rise of drug abuse in the region.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police appealed people to cooperate with it in curbing the menace of drugs from the society, reiterating therein its commitment to act tough against the criminals as per law.
