Srinagar : Police on Monday said that it has seized 10 vehicles across Police District Handwara for their involvement in unlawful extraction and transportation of minerals.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that based on inputs and routine patrolling, police teams from different jurisdictions within the district launched coordinated operations, Stating therein further that during these operations, 9 tractors and 1 tipper were intercepted while transporting minerals in violation of the Jammu and Kashmir Minor Mineral Concession, Storage, Transportation of Minerals and Prevention of Illegal Mining Rules, 2016.
Stating that the seized vehicles were found operating without proper documentation, licenses, or adherence to environmental and legal guidelines Police in its statement further said that cases under relevant provisions of law were registered at the concerned police stations besides initiating further investigations.
In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police reiterated its committment to take action against violators taking undue advantage of night hours by extracting minerals illegally to the detriment of people health, the ecology and the revenue of the government, appealing therein people to come forward with any information regarding illegal mineral-related activities in their neighbourhood.
