Ganderbal: In a concerted effort to address systemic gender disparities, Sankalp Hub for Empowerment of Women, under the aegis of Mission Shakti Ganderbal, in collaboration with the National Rural Livelihoods Mission (NRLM) Ganderbal, conducted a series of four awareness camps across Batwina, Safapora, Sindal and Beehama.
The initiative focused on sensitizing local communities to the multifaceted nature of gender inequality, with particular emphasis on critical indicators such as the female literacy rate, female labor force participation, sex ratio, incidents of dowry-related deaths, and the prevalence of domestic violence.
Resource persons and subject experts deliberated on both the socio-cultural roots of these issues and the legal frameworks available for redressal. Special focus was given to the Sexual Harassment of Women at Workplace (Prevention, Prohibition and Redressal) Act (POSH), the SHe-Box online grievance redressal portal, the Protection of Women from Domestic Violence Act, and the Dowry Prohibition Act.
Speakers underscored the importance of community engagement and legal literacy in creating an enabling environment where women can exercise their rights freely and fearlessly.
Such grassroots-level interventions, officials noted, are integral to advancing the goals of gender justice, women’s empowerment, and the broader objectives of Mission Shakti.
