Jammu: In a significant step towards fostering a drug-free society, a mega IEC campaign was conducted on Saturday at Government Higher Secondary School, Pargwal and Government GHSS Narari Bala under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan.
The campaign at Government Higher Secondary School Pargwal, Zone Jourian, was marked by the active participation of key stakeholders from the education, health, law enforcement and civil society sectors.
The school Principal Balbir Kumar Sudan delivered the keynote address, highlighting the urgent need to eliminate drug addiction from the social fabric. His presentation focused on preventive strategies and community-based action to keep youth away from substance abuse.
Dr. Sandeep Raina from PHC Pargwal sensitised students and staff on the neurological and psychological impacts of drug use. SHO Pargwal, Amit Singh, along with Head Constable MM Khan, emphasised the role of community policing and parental vigilance in curbing this menace.
The program also featured a powerful address by Dev Raj, school teacher, who presented a detailed analysis of drug abuse trends, causes and counter-measures. Ram Rattan, ZICC Jourian, provided insights into the current scenario, citing NCRB data and Government strategies under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985.
The event saw enthusiastic participation from heads of institutions, teachers, parents and civil society members from Cluster Pargwal, including Rajinder Singh, Complex Incharge MS Sajwal and several education officers from surrounding schools. A pledge was administered by Bandhna, reaffirming collective commitment against drug abuse.
Meanwhile, a mega awareness program was held at Government GHSS Narari Bala, starting with lighting of the ceremonial lamp and a welcome address by the school Principal Dr. Gharo Devi.
The program included expert lectures by representatives from the Medical, Police, Excise, Social Welfare and Education Departments. A thought-provoking video and a skit performed by students added emotional depth to the event.
The session was ably anchored by Dr. Abhineet Prashar, with overall coordination managed by Abhilasha Rajput and concluded with a vote of thanks by Renu Sharma, followed by an oath-taking ceremony.
