3 drug peddlers arrested, contraband substances seized in multiple operations: Police

Srinagar : Police on Saturday said that it has arrested three drug peddlers/smugglers in multiple operations in Anantnag and Sopore and also recovered significant quantity of contraband substances from their possessions.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party from Police Station Uttersoo, during routine naka checking, apprehended one Wasim Ahmad Khan S/o Gull Mohammad Khah R/o Sunglan and during search recovered 800 grams of a Charas-like substance from his possession. Stating that in another similar operation a police team from Police Station Aishmuqam during naka checking at Logripora/Manzigam Road near Singhpora Crossing, apprehended one Jalal Din Bhat S/o Ghulam Nabi Bhat R/o Salia Panchalpora Police in its statement further said that during search a staggering 12.9Kgs of raw Poppy buds were recovered from the possession of the said accused
Police in its statement furthermore said that during routine patrolling near Mughal Garden, Verinag, a police party from Police Post Verinag spotted a suspect carrying a nylon bag who upon noticing the police ran away from the scene, abandoning the bag and during search 6.9 kg of Green Poppy Straw was recovered. Stating that the said accused has been identified as Sajad Ahmad Padder S/o Mohd Yousuf Padder R/o Gutligund, Verinag Police in its statement said that efforts are on to apprehend the absconding suspect.
Police in its statement also said that in Sopore a drug peddler was arrested during naka checking at Wagub Crossing from whose possession 25 strips (200 capsules) of banned psychotropic substance were recovered. Stating that the said accused has been identified as Farooq Ahmad Bhat S/o Ghulam Mohammad Bhat R/o Hadipora, Rafiabad Police in its statement further said that cases under relevant sections of law were registered at respective police stations, and further investigation is underway to trace the supply chain and expose the broader network behind the drug peddling. In the concluding para of its above quoted statement Police reaffirmed its unwavering commitment to eradicate the drug menace from society.
