YSS Ang. hosts sports events to advocate drug-free life as a priority for students

Anantnag : Reaffirming its commitment to fostering physical fitness, mental well-being, and a drug-free lifestyle among the youth, Youth Services & Sports (YSS), Anantnag, launched a vibrant series of inter-zonal and zonal-level sports events across the district.
These events are aimed to promote athletic excellence besides reinforce the message of a healthy and substance-free life among students.
The sports activities commenced with the successful conduct of the district level inter-zonal Badminton competitions for U-14 and U-17 girls, held at SRJ HSS Khanabal. The tournament witnessed enthusiastic participation from young athletes across various zones of the district.
In the U-14 Girls category, Saniya Jan and Muntaza Rafiq of zone Qazigund, along with Seerat Ashraf and Ifra Jan of zone Dooru delivered exceptional performances, showcasing promising talent and sportsmanship.
Simultaneously, zone Bijbehara concluded its inter-school zonal level Football tournament for U-14 Girls at PM Shri M S Pazalpora. The event saw the participation of 112 spirited female students from different educational institutions. In a riveting final match, HS G.B Khalil emerged as the champion, while PM Shri M S Pazalpora and MS Laribal secured the runner-up and third-place positions respectively, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for football among young girls in the region.
In a unique initiative, zone Dooru conducted inter-school Yoga competitions for U-14 and U-17 boys and girls at MS Chakpath on May 21, 2025. The event commenced with all participants taking an anti-drug pledge, emphasizing the importance of leading a drug-free and healthy lifestyle. A total of 173 students, comprising 95 boys and 78 girls, participated in the yoga competitions.
Adding further depth to the holistic development approach, zone Dooru also organized Chess and Carrom competitions specifically for specially-abled students at the same venue. This inclusive effort underscores the department’s dedication to providing equal opportunities for all students, regardless of physical ability, to engage in constructive and skill-enhancing activities.
Youth Services & Sports, Anantnag, remains committed to organizing inclusive, educational, and recreational platforms for young learners across the district, encouraging them to pursue excellence both on and off the field.
