Srinagar : Police on Friday said that it has arrested two drug peddlers in Kupwara and Sopore and also recovered contraband substances from their possession.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police headquarters Srinagar Police said that a police party of Police Station Kupwara at a checkpoint established at Main Road Tikker near Radio Station Kupwara, arrested a drug peddler identified as Shahzad Ahmad Shiekh S/o Bashir Ahmad Shiekh R/o Kupwara and during search recovered a substantial amount of Charas like substance from the possession of the said accused, adding therein that Preliminary enquiry revealed the engagement of the accused in illicit drug trafficking for petty monetary gains.
Stating that in a similar action in Sopore also a Police team arrested a drug peddler at Chankan Sopore, checkpoint and identified him as Zubair Ahmad Fafu S/o Abdul Rasheed Fafu R/o Nowhaman Sopore Police in its statement further said that during search, 12 strips (96 capsules) of Spasmo Proxyvon Plus, a banned psychotropic substance, were recovered from his possession. Police in its statement furthermore said that cases under relevant sections of law Police Stations were registered in this connection besides initiating further investigations. In the concluding para of its above quoted statement police reiterated its commitment to combat drug menace and uphold the rule of law, adding therein that strong legal action will continue to be taken against individuals involved in such anti-social activities.
