Police destroys illegally cultivated poppy in B’la, Poppy destruction drive also launched in Kulgam

Srinagar : Police on Thursday said that while acting on credible inputs it has uncovered and destroyed an illegal poppy straw cultivation spanning approximately on one kanal of land in Heing, Kunzer, adding therein that land is owned byone Nazir Ahmad Sheikh S/o Late Abdul Hamid Sheikh R/o Heing Kunzer. Police further said that in Kulgam also it has launched a special Poppy destruction drive alongwith the authorities of revenue department.
In a statement issued from Zonal Police Headquarters Srinagar Police said that in Baramulla, a police party from Police Station Kunzer headed by SHO Police Station Kunzer and accompanied by the Executive Magistrate 1st Class Karhama and officials from the Excise and Agriculture Departments visited the location and confirmed the illegal activity in violation of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic substances (NDPS) Act, adding therein that the illicit crop was destroyed on the spot as per the due process of law. Police in its statement further said an FIR under No. 40/2025 under sections 8/18 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Kunzer and a thorough investigation has also been launched.
Stating that police in Kulgam also launched a special drive and destroyed a huge cultivation of Poppy spread over nearly about 3 Kanals in Village Oriel Kund and other adjacent areas by the special team of Kulgam Police headed by SHO Police Station Kund along with officers of Revenue department, Police in its statement further said that a case under FIR no 15/2025 Under Section 8/18 NDPS act was registered at police station Kund besides initiating further investigations Police in the concluding para of its above quoted statement reaffirmed its commitment to a drug-free society and appealed people to report any such illegal activities, appealing people therein to extend cooperation to it and come forward with any information regarding any kind of anti-social activity in their neighborhood.
